The legendary Doris Day kept well out of the public eye during her
later years, but when MeTV started airing The Doris Day Show, she agreed to participate in a promo -- in voiceover only, not on-screen, singing a sweet a capella version of her signature song Que Sera Sera. The producers at MeTV asked if I'd add musical accompaniment.
It was an honor to do so, and this was, in its brief but lovely way,
her last recorded singing performance, and that I, in my attic office/studio, was her final backing band.
This was another tremendous honor for me, also made possible by MeTV's brilliant writer/producer/editor, Joe Dale. Carol Burnett obliged MeTV with a series of great promos when the station began airing her classic ensemble comedy. Like Doris, Carol sang her famous closing tune, and I provided the 'faux small jazz combo' backing.
The Carol Burnett Show was essential viewing in our household,
and I was over the moon to help MeTV with music for this promo.
